Jennifer Wolff will explain the origins and uses of CRISPR-Cas9, a tool that can be used to both to study and edit the instructions coded by genes in living organisms. Jennifer will discuss ways CRISPR could be used (and, in some cases, is being used) to alter genes in living organisms for research, for medicine, and for control of invasive and disease-carrying species.

Pollinator health and loss of population has been a big topic in the news lately as several reports of devastating losses in both honey bees and native pollinator diversity have emerged.
Dr. Eva Reinicke will explore the topic of honey bee health from the prospective of a local bee veterinarian and beekeeper. Through her practice Northland Honey Bee Veterinary Services, she is in the field examining and managing colony health on a regular basis. Discussion will follow a short presentation.
